Level of Development - LOD200

Level of Development - LOD200 is a Building Information Modeling (BIM) standard that represents model elements with approximate geometry, size, shape, and location. It provides generalized information suitable for early design stages but lacks precise details for construction or fabrication. LOD200 is used for conceptual design, cost estimation, and coordination but does not include fabrication-ready specifications.

                             Applications

  • Preliminary Design & Coordination – Used for refining spatial layouts, system arrangements, and overall project coordination.
  • Cost Estimation & Quantity Takeoffs – Enables more accurate budgeting and material estimation compared to LOD 100.
  • Energy & Performance Analysis – Helps in sustainability assessments, daylight studies, and energy modeling.
  • Structural & MEP System Planning – Establishes approximate locations of structural elements, HVAC systems, electrical layouts, and plumbing routes.
  • Clash Detection & Design Adjustments – Identifies early design conflicts between disciplines before moving to detailed modeling.
  • Client & Stakeholder Presentations – Provides a clearer visual of the project for approvals and design discussions.
